Sharkslayer is off to Berlin, the fashion week is on, lot of things going on. Looking forward to party with Jörg from Brlln blog and hopefully cathing up with Wool. DB boys are in town too so hopefully there will be big dinners. I’m hungry and all I got is this chopping mall sandwich.
Finnish Hannulelauri just released their first 12″, Glittering Night EP. 2 original tracks of the EP swim smoothly in some balearic disco ocean and the b-side’s Jori Hulkkonen remix of the Sally 2000 really tops it off. Buy the vinyl while you still can, I heard that these run in very limited quantities.
What the f are we sitting inside as Sampo walks in an tells our favourite Finnish resto Sea Horse (also known as Sikala) has wlan on their summer terrace. This was totally new news to me. Farewell dark studio, some creative work can be done outside (although we’d need to finish the Top Billin remix of Raziek’s new tune ‘DIE’). Anyway I got to big up one of my fave places in Helsinki with this. Happy that I remembered this Taxi classic.
From last weekend in Warsaw, Poland. Once again a great trip, got also asked many times what we think of Polish girls. What kind of question is that? And were told that dubstep doesn’t work in Warsaw, which is completely untrue. Big up our guys Jick Magger & DJ Invent.
Yesterday J-Laini held a nice skatejam in a local skatepark. Summer has come to Finland (at last) so J-Laini and Fiskars were spinning some classic rap and jamaica tunes and the feeling was just right. I played some good old skatemovie tracks and newer skate anthems like Love’s Between Clark And Hilldale from Skate More and Arcade Fire’s No Cars Go from Fully Flared.
House and skateboarding may not go hand in hand but summer and house are known to fit well for each other. So here’s a few summery house tunes from Dj Koze and Speechless.
Good old DJhistory.com just put out a remix album by bunch of interesting names. Read the story about originals here. My picks are these spaced out takes by Peter Herbert and Leo Zero (this one i had to trim a little for the last set). Also available on vinyl! Make sure you check out exclusive Secret Weapons series at their “digital department”!
This weekend I spent my first ever midsummer in Helsinki and as a camping liking fella I was little skeptic. But the city midsummer went great w/ sauna and bbq, teh win.
The Whitest Boy Alive have been strong on the remix side (Fred Falke’s Golden Cage was huge) and now it gets even better. Morgan Geist’s remix of the discoish rock tune 1517 is an epic 10 min house track with an amazing build up. Maybe the original will serve your summery vibes better so here are both versions.
Ps. sorry that I slipped a little from the wednesday posting. Been busy with moving and so on and I’m actually posting from Pushup’s underwater sealab right now..
Midsummer is a big thing in most of the countries by the Baltic Sea. And it s a beautiful thing (not counting those ones who end up in bad statistics over estimating their swimming skills… or something), once you spend it here you ll get it. Everyone’s gone to countryside. Only few taxis pass my house every now and then. And I live right above the taxi stop.
This thing was getting too difficult to get so Prins Thomas is putting it out on his Internasjonal label, backed with Bogdan Irkük remix. So where ever you are speding you midsummer, I hope you have an internet connection so you can bang this beautiful piece of music…. in open air.
I’m getting ready for a gig Poland tomorrow with Nenis. Runaway is in Redrum tonight. Flight is very early so i could make it to the airport straight from the club. They re good. So you never kow…
It’s a rainy Monday, Fiskars is sitting opposite me working on some flyers while I answer some Q & A for Dazed & Confused… And we’re listening to classic house cuts.
