The (jungle)mafia post reminded me of this. Know how always in movies all the gangsters are those educated, sophisticated, calm, Anthony Hopkins type of guys… Live in tasteful mansions, appreciate art and are really dangerous because they’re so cold and keep their nerve. In reality there’s no criminals like that. Most of them are uneducated, violent, tracksuit wearing no manners having assholes, who had no mama and papa and that’s why grew up all wrong. Most are sexual offenders too. Movies always glorify such things as gangsterism and I call bullshit on that.

Lately I’ve just listened to the Princess of R&B, Aaliyah. The whole discography, really. Over and over. Maybe I’m having some sort of unconscious tribute to the life of this lovely and talented artist.

Here’s a tune from another talented artist. Meet Brenmar, Brooklyn based dj and producer. He’s also part of this “experimental electronic music” group called These Are Powers. You should check his awesome summer mixtape - when I heard it the first time I was instantly jamming and couldn’t really keep focus on anything I was doing (thank you Janna).

So, here’s his club version of Aaliyah’s classic tune, “R U That Somebody”. It has that highly percussive tribal/garage/house feel and it goes really well with Dubstep or that new “Uk Funky-ish” stuff. Dont sleep, you’ll hear from Brenmar in the future!

…with the Love Parade tragedy. I went to LP in 1998 in Berlin and had a blast with 800000 like-minded people. I’m not the most ‘raving’ type (you know shirtless with whistles and all) of dude but enjoyed that German holiday very much. Pity to see it stop now maybe because it was created for love and togetherness I feel.

Just got back from unbelievably hot Berlin. I finally met these awesome girls, Immy and Janna from Truants posse. Truants is super fun blog and they have this awesome Truancy mixtapes project. So far there’s exclusive mixes from Nguzunguzu, Dj Neoteric, Sam Tiba, Kenton Slash Demon and many more. Of course there’s one coming from Femme too.

Anyway, I thought to share this one gem with you – mainly because it was playing in my head the whole trip. It’s early Chicago house rarity from Joe Lewis and just perfect tune for summer. Gotta love those little snare fills and cowbells! I think the vinyl goes for something like 100-200 euros on Ebay, so good luck with that one.

Just back from Oslo at the airport with Tane Lee, waiting to catch Tensnake and Catchdubs as they arrive…. Yesterday in Oslo at the Oslo Live festival was messy fun, big up Patski Love & Chris Stallion of the Juicy crew. Festival line-up was also nice, everyone from Drop The Lime, DJ Harvey, Bun B, A-Trak, Pantha Du Prince, U-Tern, Crystal Castles etc we’re there so pretty much action. Now Tane is off to Turku Modern festival while I’ll take Catchdini to Club YK for some Helsinki heat. See you there.

If you know anything about the US dj scene, you have heard about Them Jeans for sure and if you’ve ever seen him, you will remember him (his the tallest dj we’ve ever seen with his 6 feet 8 inches figure). Jason aka Them Jeans has been running the infamous Dim Mak nights in Los Angeles for over 5 years now as a dj and a promoter and makes excellent techy house tunes with big bass sounds. He’s had releases before on labels like Emynd’s CFB and Turntable Lab, he deejays like the devil and is one of the dopest dudes we’ve ever met.

His first ep on Top Billin is a funky-styled house banger that has a lead weird enough to make you go wow at the club. Remixes come from fellow LA boys Camo Ufos (Mike B & Nate Day), Mad Decent’s own (and Diplo’s studio engineer) DJA and the next big thing in tropical beats, LOL Boys (don’t let that name fool you, these dudes are for real for real).

I’m having trouble getting over how good this tribute to Prince is. Again an example how sometimes pop music really hits the spot. Prince drove a 1981 Honda 400A in Purple Rain, not a Yamaha tho, but the 1981 Yamaha X650 above is mighty fine too…
