While Helsinki 78-82 have been remixing Kid Sister’s ‘Daydreaming’, I’ve been taking magic carpet rides with this Prince related Morris Day disco gem. Prince related? Day used to be in The Time and you can still hear Prince oozing all over the place.
When you had your eye only on the club remixes and rave-nouveau in 2007, Felix Buxton (here as Pinhead) already had that fusion of club/dutch house/world beats on lock.
Week is getting better and better… Get a new Sharkslayer remix of TV OFF’s ‘Boogieman’ (how convenient) for free at Mad Decent, this one’s a winner too. Big up Paul Devro and everybody at MD.
This was up for grabs at Rinse fm blog, can’t find the post tho, but get it here. N-Type is playing Helsinki tonite, so if you’re in HKI that’s a recommended one, we’re catching a train to Turku soon…
More exclusives… A special version from our boys So Shifty, combining Sekta’s instrumental of Peterpan and vocals by Kelis. Shifty’s ep is now out on CFB, don’t forget to cop that. Our remix of Shifty’s ‘Clap’ is available for free HERE. FREE!
As we got the Philly talk started with the P.I.R. news, here’s some nice Philly low tempo disco from the group Sweet Thunder. Not a huge classic or anything but it’s as nice as ice hockey.
Heja Sverige, SWE-FIN 3 – 0. I don’t really care because everyone knows I’m pro-Sweden anyhow… I’m more gutted of the CAN-USA 3-5 result. In any case, get some interesting Swedish music:
We love Neoteric, he’s the dudest of dudes and lives in Vancouver. He once told me that he hasn’t been making music during autumn because he’s been practicing a lot for the Olympics as he’s part of the bobsleigh team. Naturally as an easy fool I think that’s dope and start looking for tickets to go watch him ride that sleigh. Had me going for that for a time…. Then I start to think that he’s not the skinniest guy, nor is he a ‘big boy’ as Booman puts it, so fitting in that sleigh could be somewhat akward. ‘No no man, the pusher is usually the biggest’…. So I’m telling all the boys here that there’s more to Neoteric that we know of, which gets me back some smiles. Really had me going there. Well what the fuck, Canada, bobsleigh, cool runnings! Now I am more happy that he doesn’t do it as the track is obviously dangerous. Get his remix below.
Since I heard this, need to bring it back. Flipper dropping this last time in Bristol brought back some memories… it’s produced by some Pharrell & Hugo dudes in 2000 you know.
Here’s some deep NY house from the year 1989. The 12″ is pretty over priced (50€ what what). Nevertheless I’m enjoying the vibe (tribal chants etc) in this one. The tribal/world/african vibe house used to sound way different back then — A little perspective for all of you yougsters up in the blogosphere lol.
Now that Sade’s new album (about time) has dropped, we can all enjoy this Tinga Stewart’s version of the Timmy Thomas original that Sade made of so famous… We we’re even so dope that we dropped it on the last summer’s Shark mix.
Was his album 10 years ago? Time flies…. too fast. ‘Battle’ & ‘What’s Going On’ were the big guns on the album but for me the best of em was the flip of the first 12″, ‘Scrappy’. Totally relevant also today. Need to dig out more Uk Garage classics I feel…
Saturday Saturday…. Remember Fila’s? I had a pair. If you check the tune above and dl today’s rip below, you understand why Fila Fesh Crew is awesome. D.O.C of the crew was somewhat associated with World Class Wreckin Crew (lovin the jacket Dre) and did a lot of writing for Ruthless. It all makes sense to me now, the cuckoo, yawning, covering pop songs into drink anthems, Ruthless records. End shout cracks me up big time, going for a Lotto now.
Every great song needs to have a VIP, and Sekta’s ‘Peterpan’ is no exception. It has such a massive drive and a killer bass so it deserves a special version. The original release is out and making a great impact with the djs and the crowds, so go get it. While waiting for the remix ep, get the free VIP below.
Here’s another disco / new wave tune for you to enjoy. If Wally Badarou isn’t familiar to you, let’s put him on the map: Worked with such artists like Grace Jones, Herbie Hancock & Joe Cocker plus he has done some keyboard work for Level 42.
Time to rip some lost records… Remembered this while I was trying to hunt down my MFSB album with ‘Something For Nothing’ (can’t find it, need an aif rip PLS). This little Jay-Z/Paul Nice boogie vibed remix has started many parties. Eventhough the original is kool, this one’s for me.
