I bought this record from Dj Snickars at the last Helsinki second hand vinyl sale. Snickars is a classic dj and owns the best record shop in Sweden. There hasn’t been enough disco 12″ rips on the blog recentlly, so here’s a very nice classic from Finis Henderson. Skip to my lou is produced by Al McKay, a former Earth, Wind and Fire guy. The 12″ rip is from a Motown DJ promo copy from -83, which has The Temptations’ Surface Thrills (a good track also) on the flip. Thanks to Sampo for hooking me up with the 12″.

Here’s my contribution to the garage week. I’m no expert in the older uk garage, but this was a big tune back in 2000. The bassline sounds still wicked (lol) and I can totally see the dub blending in nowadays funky/garage sets.

Because today is the May Day eve (a huge party in Finland), I’m giving you the original mix and the dub mix. I’m kind of liking the dub more than the original, but I know Nenis prefers the original. So a it’s a weapon of choice gentlemen.

Define a house classic. That what the Lifesaver sticker on the cover says. Amazing song from always amazing Romanthony. This 12″ really got some people dancing when I was playing with Dj Anonymous at Siltanen a few weeks back. Fun times, 100% vinyl sets.

Prince related mentioned, so I got to post this one. Produced by Prince under the alias Alexander Nevermind. Straight up Prince quality with dirty lyrics. “Blood races to your private spots, lets me know there’s a fire / You can’t fight passion when passion is hot / Temperatures rise inside my sugar walls”. Nice.

Hope you also catched these videos of Prince rehersals from 1984. They appeared on youtube about a month ago and only one of them is still up apparently.

Here’s some deep NY house from the year 1989. The 12″ is pretty over priced (50€ what what). Nevertheless I’m enjoying the vibe (tribal chants etc) in this one. The tribal/world/african vibe house used to sound way different back then — A little perspective for all of you yougsters up in the blogosphere lol.
