Prince related mentioned, so I got to post this one. Produced by Prince under the alias Alexander Nevermind. Straight up Prince quality with dirty lyrics. “Blood races to your private spots, lets me know there’s a fire / You can’t fight passion when passion is hot / Temperatures rise inside my sugar walls”. Nice.
Hope you also catched these videos of Prince rehersals from 1984. They appeared on youtube about a month ago and only one of them is still up apparently.
As we got the Philly talk started with the P.I.R. news, here’s some nice Philly low tempo disco from the group Sweet Thunder. Not a huge classic or anything but it’s as nice as ice hockey.
Here’s another disco / new wave tune for you to enjoy. If Wally Badarou isn’t familiar to you, let’s put him on the map: Worked with such artists like Grace Jones, Herbie Hancock & Joe Cocker plus he has done some keyboard work for Level 42.
Helsinki 78-82 EP officially out today. Juno, Beatport and the rest of them shops are propably polishing those aiffs as write this. Meanwhile get your files from Top Billin MP3 shop. Vinyl available through Intergroove distribution systems today.
Right on the heels of our previous bass/electro smasher, we hit you with the most anticipated house/disco record of recent times.
Helsinki 78-82 is a project by Top Billin team members Flipper & Koobra, who’ve always been active and always been down to bring something new to the label. While Flipper is part of the Top Billin dj team and has always been the most high-flying of us, so no wonder the the new 12” is some musical bliss that’ll leave you feeling that good good. This is what we call Big City House music, when you’re cruising the streets at night with the top down - no words needed. In a manner Michael Mann would be proud of.
‘So Lifelike’ is a ‘sort of’ remake of Lifelike’s great ‘ So Electric (under permission)’, although this time it comes with vocals from our great Helsinki new wave partners Villa Nah. If you are in need of a new end-nighter, this is it. ‘Cruising’ is a tune full of that pumping big city feel with driving drums and great synth work that will get them ladies on the floor and will fit into those funky house / modern disco sets. We even have a video for it, but it’s a different kind of cruising than you think (no Al Pacino). Digital release will feature also one tough-thumping house monster titled ‘Project 2′.
We’ve been playing this since last summer and it’s been a staple at daytime radioshows where we come from and greatly welcomed by some of our top dj friends who’ve gotten it early (we know, unfair, but life is) like:
‘So Lifelike is the JAM’ – Diplo
‘So Lifelike is so great!’ – Nick Catchdubs, Fools Gold Records
‘This isn’t only a surprise but a true treat for the ears.” -Turntable Lab
Get this future classic in your record box as we have a limited pressing only and no more will be made. We also hope this will give you as good feelings as it gives to us.
Here’s a cool edit of Starpoint – It’s All Yours by Baresi. You can also find edits of Talking Heads, Sharon Redd and this Imagination gem on his Soundcloud. Dimitri From Paris also had a cool dubbed out version of this song.
Lost laptop, all kinds of mayhem, this is the new age of the renaissance and when many are the opposite of a polymath (aka homo universalis) and still regarded as one, how did that happen? Let’s turn it the back the other way! But I got some disco house gems here from the renaissance era of house music, grab em all, very recommended.
I can’t realise we never featured this classic here, vocal by Jaimie Principle. Makes me want to weep, but I’ve been feelin ’soft’ lately apparently. This is truly something for the new year.
This week I went to buy some records at Anonymous‘ crib. Found some damn good vinyl and I wish I’d have had like a million euros with me. Here’s one of them, I’ll be posting some more vinyl rips soon. Fred Falke and Alan Braxe sampled this one on their Running’s Intro song.
All you “Helsinkiläiset Peeeeoopplle” remember to check out the newly opened Lifesaver. Lots n lots of vinyl sweetness there.
It’s getting dark here in Helsinki, not really any sunshine during the day. Fortunately we got starlight. Nice song from a Dutch girl quartet from the year 1982. Also check out the sax in Risque’s Burn It Up, MR D.J..
Here’s a halloween tune for you, Carter Burwell’s Scream of Love which is a theme song from Psycho III. Even though we don’t celebrate halloween like in the U.S. and every radiostation isn’t blasting Monster Mash.
Sunday has been great thanks to last night’s awesome party at Kuudes linja (thanks to everybody who showed up and supported our bball team) and today’s victorious football match. Here’s something that I found when I was going through some Nine 2 Five record crates at the studio. Hopefully it’ll make your Sunday and the beginning of the week work.
Our tall homie DJ Eleven will drop his new record titled ‘Dance Your Way’ next week…. and it’s truly great piece of club flavoured disco music so keep your eyes open and don’t forget to get it as soon as it drops. As a maker of lots of remixes, blends, club tools, here’s a sweet one from Joe.
Brussels that is. Top Billin @ Regulate tonight in Brussels. I took off from Hannover in the morning with 2 hours of sleep, somehow managed to end up in Amsterdam and now finally got to Brussels. Left headphones to the train. Will so bang it out tonite to get rid of the disappointment in myself. Shouts to my homies Maximal Gang in Hannover, they run a tight ship.
U-tern made my day with his Lifelike megapost last week and now I’m trying to make this day work. Back to school week sucks but Dcup doesn’t. From Germany to Down Under and from pan flutes to saxophones disco sounds good.
