When you had your eye only on the club remixes and rave-nouveau in 2007, Felix Buxton (here as Pinhead) already had that fusion of club/dutch house/world beats on lock.
We love Neoteric, he’s the dudest of dudes and lives in Vancouver. He once told me that he hasn’t been making music during autumn because he’s been practicing a lot for the Olympics as he’s part of the bobsleigh team. Naturally as an easy fool I think that’s dope and start looking for tickets to go watch him ride that sleigh. Had me going for that for a time…. Then I start to think that he’s not the skinniest guy, nor is he a ‘big boy’ as Booman puts it, so fitting in that sleigh could be somewhat akward. ‘No no man, the pusher is usually the biggest’…. So I’m telling all the boys here that there’s more to Neoteric that we know of, which gets me back some smiles. Really had me going there. Well what the fuck, Canada, bobsleigh, cool runnings! Now I am more happy that he doesn’t do it as the track is obviously dangerous. Get his remix below.
Here’s some deep NY house from the year 1989. The 12″ is pretty over priced (50€ what what). Nevertheless I’m enjoying the vibe (tribal chants etc) in this one. The tribal/world/african vibe house used to sound way different back then — A little perspective for all of you yougsters up in the blogosphere lol.
Artist: Femme En Fourrure
Title: ‘Plump Bisquit’ w/ Sharkslayer remix
Release date: 5th February 2010
Femme En Fourrure aka Juuso & Bianca, our fellow disco / house lovers from Helsinki have been making waves witheir minimalistic yet bass-heavy house sound lately. Juuso has been known as disco-enthusiast and now with a female companion, they create a house sound that’s very much 2010. They’ve done remixes for Crystal Fighters, Edu K, Myd (‘Train To Bamako’) anyone, huge ep that one) and a release for Dandy Kids records last year, so it’s time to release a single from them on Top Billin. As Femme En Fourrure and Sharkslayer are friends, what would be more appropriate than a Sharkslayer remix/‘demon dub’ (a true soundboy burial) to accompany the single. This for the ones who love that techier side of house but with soft deep subs and airhorns. If you play that Renaissance Man / Sound Pellegrino style as well as some Sinden / Crookers vibes, you might find this relevant to your interests. There’s a lot more in the pipeline from the dynamic duo, so keep watch.
Helsinki 78-82 EP officially out today. Juno, Beatport and the rest of them shops are propably polishing those aiffs as write this. Meanwhile get your files from Top Billin MP3 shop. Vinyl available through Intergroove distribution systems today.
Right on the heels of our previous bass/electro smasher, we hit you with the most anticipated house/disco record of recent times.
Helsinki 78-82 is a project by Top Billin team members Flipper & Koobra, who’ve always been active and always been down to bring something new to the label. While Flipper is part of the Top Billin dj team and has always been the most high-flying of us, so no wonder the the new 12” is some musical bliss that’ll leave you feeling that good good. This is what we call Big City House music, when you’re cruising the streets at night with the top down - no words needed. In a manner Michael Mann would be proud of.
‘So Lifelike’ is a ‘sort of’ remake of Lifelike’s great ‘ So Electric (under permission)’, although this time it comes with vocals from our great Helsinki new wave partners Villa Nah. If you are in need of a new end-nighter, this is it. ‘Cruising’ is a tune full of that pumping big city feel with driving drums and great synth work that will get them ladies on the floor and will fit into those funky house / modern disco sets. We even have a video for it, but it’s a different kind of cruising than you think (no Al Pacino). Digital release will feature also one tough-thumping house monster titled ‘Project 2′.
We’ve been playing this since last summer and it’s been a staple at daytime radioshows where we come from and greatly welcomed by some of our top dj friends who’ve gotten it early (we know, unfair, but life is) like:
‘So Lifelike is the JAM’ – Diplo
‘So Lifelike is so great!’ – Nick Catchdubs, Fools Gold Records
‘This isn’t only a surprise but a true treat for the ears.” -Turntable Lab
Get this future classic in your record box as we have a limited pressing only and no more will be made. We also hope this will give you as good feelings as it gives to us.
TRAX RECORDS IS RELEASING A BRAND NEW SINGLE FROM AZARI AND III!
TRAX Records: The Second Generation 2010
Chicago, IL – After a hot comeback in 2004, TRAX was on everyone’s mind. This year after 4 dormant years, TRAX is back. With a brand new team behind TRAX Records, the return of the House Music label is set to release a brand new single from Azari and III. This will be the first single released from TRAX as part of our “Second Generation: 2010″ string of brand new releases. New A&R Director Jorge Cruz has been working to release several new songs, covers and remixes from hot acts such as Azari and III. Azari and III had some of the hottest singles released in 2009, including Reckless with Your Love and Hungry For The Power. The release is set to be titled Indigo and will be released March 30, 2010.
This first release will be a significant change but homage to the Chicago House sound that TRAX Records fostered in the early 80’s and 90’s. Azari and III not only breathe Chicago House but also give it a ghoulish, political and amorous twist.
Toronto’s Azari and III (Dinamo Azari and Alixander III) have appeared in Juno Live’s Ones to Watch in 2010, Furtive’s Top 50 of 2009, Resident Advisor’s Top 50 Tracks of 2009 list and many more!
Here’s a edit of Eric Miller’s It’s The Groove. Found the original on Dance Mania Presents Future Sounds of Chicago and thought this one needs some modernising. Chicago sound is in the groove again thanks to the names like Azari & III among others. Enjoy the edit.
Lost laptop, all kinds of mayhem, this is the new age of the renaissance and when many are the opposite of a polymath (aka homo universalis) and still regarded as one, how did that happen? Let’s turn it the back the other way! But I got some disco house gems here from the renaissance era of house music, grab em all, very recommended.
I can’t realise we never featured this classic here, vocal by Jaimie Principle. Makes me want to weep, but I’ve been feelin ’soft’ lately apparently. This is truly something for the new year.
Gotta choose the ‘funny’ flip version of the 1995 xmas jam to find the best one, original being just wrong. The beat is dope, could use an instru if you know what I mean. Right now as Joi Cardwell is a name I know from feats on various house singles, I can’t remember any specific big tunes from her…. Was that Lil Louis / Joi track good or bad, can’t remember (found it: pretty good!).
“While the release of the eagerly awaited debut album by Villa Nah may still be a couple of months away, the follow up for their 3-track VN ep let’s you dwell in and see the other side of the band. The new single Rainmaker presents a more straightforward approach to crafting pop-perfection. Driving hihats, deep synths, dramatic vocals and a middle-eight to die for won’t even bother into re-inventing the wheel. Rainmaker goes places where there’s no need for roads”.
Highly recommended as always, “dub” is the new “remix”.
What can a man say about DJ Dealer except his bassline and vocal arrangements are second to none. How can something so plastic be so good. So playing this tonite. Note to self, do not read bio.
Going through my collection of South African tunes and diggin the latest Mixin It Up by our Swedish brethen Pom Pom guys (Terminator Returns is dopeness), I remembered this gem from 2007. Not maybe your average banger, but a kool tune to get the thing going. South Africa ftw, soon come stuff on Top Billin with a SA vocalist you all may now.
